Unbuild a product and recover its components

Record an actual disassembly, connecting the finished product consumed with the components returned to stock.

Before you start

Have the physical product, quantity, lot/serial and the original completed manufacturing order where applicable. Confirm that disassembly, rather than a customer return or scrap, describes the actual event.

Step by step

1. Prepare the unbuild order

Open Manufacturing > Operations > Unbuild Orders and create a draft. Select the original manufacturing order, or the product and bill of materials when there is no manufacturing origin. Check company, quantity, unit, source location of the finished product and destination for recovered components.

2. Check traceability and available quantity

For tracked finished products, select the actual lot or serial. Tracked components require the original manufacturing order so the system can retrieve their traceability. Inspect previous unbuilds of that order and lot; repeated partial unbuilds need explicit quantity and lot review.

3. Validate and inspect product moves

Choose Unbuild after reviewing the physical operation. If an insufficient-quantity warning appears, investigate the stock and source location before proceeding. Open Product Moves on the completed order and compare finished product consumption, recovered components, lots and valuation with the physical result. Record nonrecoverable components through the appropriate scrap procedure.

Expected result

Finished-product consumption and recovered components have linked stock movements and reviewed quantities.

If something goes wrong

An unfinished manufacturing order cannot be unbuilt through this flow. A stock disassembly does not cancel the customer invoice or its fiscal document; use the separate commercial/fiscal correction process when needed.
