Review bills of materials and estimated costs

Prepare the product structure used by manufacturing and compare structural and consolidated Excel reports.

Before you start

Have the approved product revision, units, quantities, component costs and operations. Work-center operations require the corresponding manufacturing configuration.

Step by step

1. Review the structure

Open Manufacturing > Products > Bills of Materials. Select product, variant, company, bill type and output quantity. Review each component quantity and unit; open subassembly bills and check variant applicability. Use the component list to find where a component is used.

2. Review operations and cost inputs

Check work centers, planned durations, hourly costs and subcontracting inputs where applicable. Compare the product cost and component cost dates. Distinguish a kit, a manufactured product and a subcontracted bill before releasing the structure for use.

3. Export the appropriate report

From the bill form or selected bills, open Print. Export BoM Structure to Excel preserves levels; its Level 1 alternative limits the view to the first level. Export Flattened BOM Structure to Excel consolidates the components. Review the material, labor and subcontracting cost columns added by the installed extensions.

Expected result

An approved structure and cost estimate with identifiable quantity, variant and source bill.

If something goes wrong

Unexpected totals commonly come from mixed units, output quantities other than one, repeated subassemblies or missing costs. An Excel estimate does not update posted stock valuation. Review an engineering change before applying it to orders already in progress.
