Plan demand with multilevel MRP

Calculate component requirements across product levels, review planned orders and release the selected replenishments.

Before you start

Inventory, confirmed supply, demand, bills of materials and lead times must be current. Define MRP areas and product parameters. Check the warehouse working calendar before interpreting planned dates.

Step by step

1. Set area and product parameters

In Manufacturing configuration, review MRP Areas. In Product MRP Area Parameters, check location, supply method, supplier, lot size and lead times for each product/area pair. Ensure the same stock is not unintentionally planned twice in overlapping areas.

2. Prepare demand estimates

Open Inventory > Demand Planning > Stock Demand Estimates and enter product, location, period and quantity. Review Group Days of Estimates in the product MRP area: it controls how estimates are grouped into planning demand. Compare forecasts with actual orders to avoid duplicated demand assumptions.

3. Calculate and review shortages

In the manufacturing planning menus, open Run MRP Multi Level and choose Run MRP. Inspect Planned Orders and MRP Inventory, including demand, incoming supply, shortage and proposed dates. Running the calculation produces a plan; it does not by itself confirm every proposed purchase or manufacturing order.

4. Release selected replenishments

In MRP Inventory, filter To procure, select the reviewed lines and choose Action > Procure. Check quantities and dates in the assistant before Execute. Open the generated RFQs, transfers or manufacturing orders and verify their origin. Recalculate after relevant demand or supply changes.

Expected result

A reviewed replenishment plan and traceable orders for the selected requirements.

If something goes wrong

If dates fall too early or late, inspect working calendars, route delays and supplier/manufacturing lead times. For repeated supply proposals, check open orders and prior procurements before executing again. Coordinate MRP, orderpoints and DDMRP ownership for the same products.
