Review DDMRP buffers and replenishment¶
Use stock buffers to prioritize replenishment using the product’s location, demand and supply parameters. A buffer is a planned stock protection level, not a separate physical stock location.
Before you start¶
The planning team should define buffered products, locations, buffer profiles and the average daily usage method (ADU). Review supplier and manufacturing lead times and the location of components on bills of materials.
Step by step¶
1. Inspect the buffer settings¶
Open Stock Buffer Planning or Reordering Rules in Inventory. Select a product and location and inspect its buffer profile, lead time and ADU method. Check that the demand history or forecast used by the method is representative.
2. Update and review the calculation¶
Use Inventory > Configuration > DDMRP > Run DDMRP when a manual calculation is needed, or verify the scheduled calculation date. Review on-hand stock, open supply, qualified demand and the resulting buffer position. Investigate unusual spikes before acting on a priority color.
3. Follow replenishment to its order¶
Review the proposed quantity, route, supplier or manufacturing source and required date. Process replenishment through the configured workflow and follow the resulting purchase or manufacturing order. Check existing supply first to avoid creating duplicate orders.
Expected result¶
Replenishment priorities are explained by reviewed demand and supply data and can be traced to the orders that will fulfill them.
If something goes wrong¶
For a zero or implausible ADU, check the selected method, period and demand source. A company without history needs an agreed starting method instead of an unexplained zero. Changing a buffer profile can affect several products; review its scope before saving.
